You Don’t Have to See the Whole Path

You can act with love today while leaving room for the answers you do not have yet.

I don’t know what you’re carrying right now.

Maybe you’re tired.

Maybe you’re trying to figure out what comes next and honestly you have no idea.

Maybe you’ve been praying about something for a long time and it feels like God isn’t giving you an answer.

I’ve been there.

There are times when I wish God would just show me the whole road.

Tell me where I’m going. Tell me how this is going to work out. Tell me that the thing I’m struggling with today is eventually going to make sense.

But most of the time, He doesn’t.

And I’ve had to learn that maybe that’s the point.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” — 1 Corinthians 3:6

That verse has always struck me because Paul doesn’t say he made everything happen.

He planted.

Someone else watered.

And God handled the growth.

That’s it.

Sometimes we put an incredible amount of pressure on ourselves to fix everything.

We think we have to figure it all out. We have to make the right decision. We have to know what happens next. We have to somehow make sure everything turns out okay.

But maybe that’s not our job.

Maybe our job is just to be faithful with what’s in front of us.

Take the next step.

Make the phone call.

Have the conversation.

Apologize.

Forgive.

Get out of bed.

Help somebody.

Ask for help.

Pray again.

Try again.

Whatever that next step is.

It doesn’t have to be a big one.

And you don’t have to know where it leads.

Some of the hardest seasons of our lives don’t come with a clear explanation. Sometimes all you can do is keep moving forward while trusting that God sees something you can’t.

And that’s hard.

I know it is.

But not knowing what’s around the corner doesn’t mean you’re lost.

Waiting doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

And a slow season doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Some things take time.

Some wounds take time.

Some answers take time.

Some seeds take a long time before you ever see anything growing.

So if you’re in one of those seasons right now, I just want to remind you of something:

You don’t have to have the whole thing figured out today.

You don’t have to see the whole path.

Just take the next step you can see.

Plant what you can plant.

Water what you can water.

Love the person in front of you.

And leave the growth to God.

Maybe you won’t see what comes from it today.

Maybe you won’t see it tomorrow.

But that doesn’t mean your faithfulness is wasted.

Keep going.

One step at a time.

God is still working, even in the parts of the story you can’t see yet.

A Prayer for the Next Step

God, I’m tired of trying to figure everything out.

I don’t know what tomorrow looks like and sometimes that scares me.

Help me stop carrying things that were never mine to carry.

Give me the strength to take the next step and the patience to trust You with everything beyond it.

If all I can do today is plant a seed, let me plant it with love.

If all I can do is take one step, help me take it.

And when I can’t see what You’re doing, help me remember that You can.

Amen.
