Harm Reduction Tuesday: Cannabis Affects Everyone Differently

August 25, 2026 · Cannabis & Harm Reduction · 2 min read

One of the most important things to understand about cannabis is that there isn’t a single experience that applies to everyone.

The same product can feel very different from one person to another.

Why?

Several factors can play a role:

🌿 Tolerance — Someone who uses cannabis regularly may respond differently than someone who rarely uses it.

🧠 Individual biology — Body chemistry, metabolism and other personal factors can influence how someone responds.

🍃 The product itself — THC concentration, CBD content, other cannabinoids and terpenes can all contribute to the experience.

⏱️ How it’s consumed — Inhaled cannabis and edibles behave very differently. Inhaled cannabis is generally felt more quickly while edibles can take considerably longer to produce noticeable effects and can last much longer.

🍽️ Food and digestion — With edibles, what and when you eat can also influence how the experience develops.

💊 Medications and other substances — Cannabis can interact with other substances, which is one reason it’s important to talk with a qualified healthcare professional if you’re taking medications or have questions about potential interactions.

That’s why responsible cannabis education shouldn’t revolve around one-size-fits-all advice.

Start with understanding.
Pay attention to your own response.
Give cannabis time to take effect.
And don’t assume that more will necessarily mean better.

Harm reduction isn’t about fear.

It isn’t about judgment.

And it isn’t about telling someone whether they should or shouldn’t use cannabis.

It’s about giving people enough honest information to recognize potential risks and make more informed choices.

That’s a big part of why MercyLeaf exists.

Better information can lead to better decisions.

And sometimes, a little knowledge can prevent a very uncomfortable experience.
